WINDOWS SURFACE TABLET

Disclaimer: Well this is not an affordable buy product, just amazingly that one of a kind of product that you will just love.

Windows Surface tablet is the latest addition to the tablet wars and to be honest, this is by far the most innovative product of the year.

Firstly, kudos to Microsoft on a job well done. If you could ask if there is any tab that is a total replacement for any generic PC in the market, the answer would be a highly emphatic NO. A tablet until now was an extended Phone or connectivity device, and not too much of a productive device.

Microsoft has definitely achieved that thin line between an affordable all Purpose PC and generic tablet (3G needs using a USB Dongle). Two versions are planned to hit the market, tablets with the Windows RT version and Windows 8 Pro.

Hardware:
Both the tablet versions would come in a 10.6" Clear type full HD display. It comes in a vapor magnesium case, dark titanium colors, flip stand (portrait and landscape), 720p HD cameras (front and rear), USB ports, HD output (HD Digital AV adapter). It will support SD cards upto 64 GB, HD out ports as well and will connect to mice, keyboard, printers etc (virtually anything based on WIN RT specs).Windows Apps store would help to provide the needs of the user. Like many android tabs the SIM feature would be unavailable for the current released versions.

Touch cover
Before we move on to the Surface Tablets, we need to talk about the touch cover. The touch cover is incredibly the most awesome feature that comes as an accessory for the Surface Tablets. Its vivid range of colors and easy snap on to the tablet has made this accessory a must buy for the Microsoft tabs. Its just 3mm thick and packs pressure sensors for the keyboard and the trackpad. It protects your screen and when moved to the back the keyboard features just disengages allowing you to work with the tablet alone features. In the Pro version, another added accessory is the Pen Input with the Palm Block.

SURFACE WINDOWS RT
Well, the lighter and shorter version of the WIN 8 Pro, is powered by an ARM Cortes Processor. comes in either 32/64 gig storage and is lighter. The Windows RT is nothing but (WIN 8 without the desktop option). However a good thing is that it will feature Office and One Note. So it transforms itself into a mostly connectivity and productive device. However from a PC point of view, this would suffice the needs of both the tablet and a netbook (but we will sorely miss the desktop feature for old times sake). Prices are expected to be competitive to iPad Tablets as its better than most tablets in the market.

SURFACE WINDOWS 8 PRO
GeekNxt is very excited for this product. Why? Well for one its rumored to features an Intel iCore 5 (3rd gen processor), Win 8 Pro with the Desktop. It packs a larger battery and is 4mm thicker than the RT version. This version is planned to release with a 64/128 gig storage. This truly supplements the needs of any generic PC. Any enterprise software or applications can be installed in this amazing device

Windows Evolution

GeekNxt was browsing the Windows Surface Tablet, when we stumbled upon the 47 minute launch video of the Surface Tablet. This is the first time in the history of Microsoft, where the launch was pre-emoted by anticipation and mysteriousness. Steve Ballmer and the Design teams really put a show out there. Watch this as it aptly describes where Microsoft is right now.

ANDROID 4.2 (LIME PIE)

Firstly lets look at the evolution of Android OS:

Android 2.1 - Eclair
Android 2.2 - Froyo
Android 2.3 - Gingerbread
Android 3.0 - Honeycomb,
Android 4.0 - Ice Cream Sandwich
Android 4.1 - Jelly Bean.
& now the
Android 4.2 - Key Lime Pie (To be confirmed)

Most devices out there in the market are yet to get hold of "Jelly Bean" when rumors and enthusiasts are already sporting for the "Key Lime Pie" version.

So what is the 4.2 Packing?
Project Roadrunner - Google has understood the need for a longer battery life and has started of the initiative in the 4.1 already (a.k.a. Project Butter). However, in the 4.2 an enhanced version would be available and will be called Project Roadrunner.

Google Now: Well this is Googles answer to iPhone's "SIRI". Various apps for Android, have released counterparts of "SIRI" (codenamed IRIS, AISHA), but are yet to touch our hearts. So its Google Now or never.

Enhanced Google Play, voice search integration with System level functions, a Customization Centre etc. will be available with the device. Rumored hits on web sites by devices running the 4.2 version are the Nexus and Moto Razr.

GOOGLE GLASSES

The Generation right now is experiencing what is known as the coming of Age of Technology. We have see the growth from lousy lombish desktops to the notebooks. Mobile phones go from bricks to a Touch screen, advent of the tablets, phablets, motion sensing gaming (XBOX and PS3) and what not.

About Google Glasses:
However, the next tech that GeekNxt followers would be looking forward to is the Google Glasses. The technology is kind of a first step into augmented reality, and would be the next best thing to get our hands dirty into. FYI - its the closest thing, you can get to Jarvis, the A.I. in Iron Man.

It features a camera (the black dot), a thumb size display, a speakers over your right ear, a microphone and a button on the glasses. Its ultra sleek and would be commercialized in bold colors. It fits partially above the right eye (kind of like a bow over your eyebrows) and renders visual information on the screen for the user.

The glasses would supposedly connect to your phone via blue tooth and allow you to visualize information as it appears. The glasses uses voice recognition (and probably eye movements) to navigate through the various screen menus. The voice recognition command feature available in the Android Phones would be effectively utilized for this device. The glasses mainly focus on navigation, social networking and hands free communication.

The video below provides a view into what our lives would like in the near future:

GeekNxt expects that the glasses would be heavily integrated with Android OS and also be capable of a closer rendering into augmented reality. i.e. The project advertisement for the device is still in-capable of identifying certain objects (any consumer goods) or poster and play the related advertisement. Or evoke a virtual environment over the current visual. However, these are technologies of the future and one thing is for sure, technologies of the future would amaze, integrate and cross barriers of our wildest imagination.

GOOGLE NEXUS 7 TABLET

If you pop your head into the Tablet world, you will initially be amazed by the awe of it and slowly the awesomeness would turn into somewhat of a deja vu. Cut throat competition, neck breaking prices and  the release of Ultrabooks have slowly put the tablet market into a bit of a tabloid.

However, Google has released the Google Nexus Tab, which is quite competitive in every aspect be its amazing price, great specs and is powered by the latest Android 4.1 platform (Jelly bean). The Android Beam and NFC features are thankfully included in this amazing device, but the major drawback is the lack of the much needed 3G mobility.

Hardware:
The amazing feature would include a Quad core Tegra 3 processor (supplied by ASUS and powering the EEE transformer prime series) and 1 GB DDR3 RAM to go with it. Its a 7" Tablet, and is quite ergonomic to handle, with its wide edges and light weight (340 gms tab weight). We can however effectively use the GPS in the new offline mode for Google Maps.

Also expandable storage is unavailable (similar to most Samsung tablets) and has no HDMI port is a more popular choice in most Tabs.

Who Should Buy this?
Definitely people who have a thing for heavy Gaming, and who are perfectly happy with lazing around the house with a TAB. If you want to carry this device around then you have to hotspot your Smartphone (which is not recommended). The price is the distinguishing factor for this device and has the capability to out-perform most high end devices in the market.

SIM-Olution

The SIM card (Subscriber identity module) is at is third Generation of evolution. The latest being the Nano SIM card which fits into the much awaited iPhone 5. The evolution is based on miniaturization of devices and to reduce the much unwanted use of plastic around the SIM Card.

Outlook:

Apart from the dimensions , there is no functional difference between any of these SIM Cards.

ANDROID MINIPC

Today, android devices are the market leaders in the Smartphone technology. It has extensive tweaks and enormous capability to handle multi and complex tasks. However  (apart from the phone stuff), an average user would probably check mail, happenings on social sites, surf the net or blog and probably do some entertaining stuff like angry birds or talking tom, and even maybe an app to stream news (BBC, CNN, TOI depending on your location).

Hardware:
The Android MiniPC is a wonderful device which will convert your LCD/LED Tv (HDMI input required) into an amazing. Since it dose not have an Ethernet port (size of a USB Stick) it uses WiFi to connect to the net. It comes with an Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 and you would have to pay additional amount to get a Wireless Keyboard and Mouse (the adapter for the wireless keyboard and mouse which plugs into the only USB port of the Device). It has a 4Gb inbuilt ROM for storage needs and you can add an SD card upto 32 GB for additional Storage needs (GeekNxt would recommend cloud computing). It has a Cortex A8 Processor (popularly used in samsung tabs) & a graphical processor as well.

Who should Buy?
An average user, who does not need a carry around Tab, and possess a 32" or more LCD/LED TV (WiFi connectivity at home) can go for this device. Go ahead and convert your TV into a Andro-Smart one.

IPHONE 5

Perhaps the most pivoting technology device ever to be released will be the iPhone Series. We are at the juncture of the 5th Generation Upgrade of the project (especially the most significant technology released by apple since the sad demise of Steve Jobs).

Though there are tons of features to be loved about the New iPhone 5, CNet has listed 5 must wanted features in the iPhone 5.

The Bad News First:

&
Now for the Good News

NEXPHONE 3

NEXPHONE 3 is something that is creating a wave in the world of the Geek community. So GeekNxt has invested time to evaluate a futuristic concept.

About Nexphone 3:
Firstly this is an indiegogo.com project opened by Kosmaz Technologies LLC, CA. Its like an online campgain platform that lets anybody post ideas/campgains and visitors to the website can contribute to any campgain (and its time constrained).
Secondly, the device looks amazing and depending on your needs you can buy the desktop, laptop or the tablet + Phone. A whole package would be deeemed at around $ 1000.
And finally the initiative needs your funding to do so. Kosmaz Technologies enterpruner Emre Kosmaz is in touch with Chinese vendors (yes chinese vendors, where do you think iPhones are made) and is also in touch with Canonical Services (as Ubuntu can be integrated with the android phones, which would then act as the central processing unit) to built this amazing device.

What do we need to know of Nexphone 3?
The advantage of the Nexphone 3 is that you will save cost on multiple devices accompanied with its mind boggling specs and prices. It promotes and utilizes cloud computing which we must agree is the next method of storage for any user (especially when users get at least 5Gb free, be it Google or Canonical). Well to boot Ubuntu 12.04 from the device would at least require pretty decent specs (a dual core 1 Ghz processor and 1 Gb RAM). If you are paying multiple bills for your phone, tablet and DSL connection, your one stop solutionwould be the Nexphone (a good 3G plan would suffice).

However, GeekNxt has noticed / recommend the following features on this wonderful product.

  • HDMI Ports required on all devices
  • Laptop + Tablet requires an inbuilt battery (Desktop should be able to connect to a power source)
  • USB 3.0 Ports alone required (just one would suffice)

Since the product is not finalized, we need to say that your ideas and comments would be well recieved by Kosmaz, post your donation to realize the product.

ASUS - U32U (Rx012D)

ASUS has released a range of Netbooks, Notebooks and Laptops that are highly reliable and quite frankly does the job. Yes, its name is derived from Pegasus, a Greek mythological war horse and its out there to fight the competition.

Hardware:
The U-Series is a set of notebooks, that are ultra thin and easy to carry around. With soft working on the system and the 8 cell battery, you can juice out around 8-9hrs worth of back up. It has a 13.3 inch screen, unfortunately the rather thick edges on the screen puts the whole dimension of the whole notebook at around 14 inches. It weighs around 1.7 kgs and  has a aluminium casing (top cover and around the keyboard. HDMI port, Two USB 3.0 ports and AMD Radeon Graphics H 6320  adds more charm.

Buy Asus U32U-RX012D Laptop (APU Dual Core/ 2GB/ 320GB/ DOS): Computer
Software:
However, the AMD E450 Processor (1.6 Ghz) is an injustice to the whole ecosystem of the laptop. The laptop on running Ubuntu 12.04 was evidently slow. The windows experience rating was deemed at 3.9 for the processor (all other ratings were 4.4 and higher up. The software updates could be found at the ASUS website which is always recommended.

Who Should Buy?
If you are sick of going for a Netbook for its  puny size and want heavy power back up, looking at a premium segment Ultrabook but its not an option then this is the notebook to go for.
